In a candid new interview, Nigerian music superstar Davido opened up about a dramatic episode from his early life — the moment he ran away from home to pursue his dream of becoming a musician.
At the time, Davido was living alone with his billionaire father in a 16-bedroom mansion in Lagos. With his siblings studying abroad and his mother having passed away, he quietly channeled his energy into music. He even built a hidden studio inside the house, spending most of his days recording songs and smoking — all without his father’s knowledge.
Feeling stifled and desperate to chase his passion, Davido made a bold move: he fled to London and stayed with a producer friend for six months. Back in Nigeria, his mysterious disappearance sparked concern. His family launched an intensive search operation, reportedly involving immigration officers and even the Nigerian Army.
When he eventually returned to Nigeria, Davido had no plans of going home. But as soon as he landed at the airport, a uniformed officer approached and escorted him outside — where he found several military men and, to his shock, his father waiting.
Instead of the punishment he feared, Davido was met with a warm embrace. “I thought I’d be scolded,” he recalled. “But he was just happy to see me.”
That heartfelt reunion became a turning point. Davido finally opened up to his father, telling him he didn’t want to go to school — he wanted to make music and succeed on his own terms.
