Governor Peter Mbah Urges Nursing Students to Shun ‘Japa’, Stay and Serve State’s Health Sector

The Governor of Enugu State ,Dr. Barr. Peter Mbah has begged every nursing students in the state not to japa to outside country or another state after graduation in order curb brain drain in the state’s health sector. 

 This appeal was made by the Governor of the state during the celebration of the 2024/ 2025 Maiden Matriculation Ceremony of the Nursing College, Enugu on Thursday, 10th April 2025.

 Governor Peter Mbah urged every nursing students to put into consideration the huge resources the state has been investing in training and equipping nursing and midwifery  in the state and cultivate the zeal of giving  back to the state after graduation. 

 Governor Peter Mbah, who was represented by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), quoted “japa syndrome” was completely against the policy of the state, who had been investing huge sum of  amounts and resources in training them. 

He said: “We don’t equip you with knowledge , skills and properly trainings and after spending all that money and redo in infrastructure and the first opportunity you get you abandon our healthcare facilities. 

The secretary of the state stated clearly that the state is very particular in improving the work and service conditions so that when gone through the processes of obtaining a certification you don’t have the zeal to abandon the state after graduation. 

In a statement, Peter Mbah made a heartfelt speech requesting every one to revisit the 2024 and 2025 budget and see that the highest investments of the state is in education and health. He also stated that the state is training beyond academics and see that it’s all about service to humanity.
