Ogun CP Urges Corps Members to Avoid Crime in Uniform

August 3, 2026 - 3 views

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has issued a stern warning to all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state. During a recent address, he emphasized that wearing the NYSC uniform does not grant any corps member the right to engage in criminal activities.

Understanding the NYSC Program

The National Youth Service Corps is a program established by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country. It aims to foster unity and promote the spirit of selfless service among the youth. However, the responsibility that comes with this honor is immense, and corps members must conduct themselves with integrity.

Warning Against Misconduct

CP Ojajuni highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive image of the corps and urged members to uphold the values of the NYSC program. He stated, “Your uniform is a symbol of service to the nation, and it should not be misused. Engaging in any form of crime while in uniform tarnishes the reputation of the NYSC and undermines the efforts of all corps members who are genuinely serving.”

Recent Incidents and Community Impact

His remarks come in the wake of several incidents where some corps members have been implicated in criminal activities ranging from theft to public disturbances. Such actions not only jeopardize their safety but also create a negative perception of the entire NYSC program.

CP Ojajuni urged community members to report any suspicious activities involving corps members to the police. He reassured them that the command is committed to ensuring the safety of all corps members and residents alike.

Promoting a Safe Environment

The police commissioner also encouraged corps members to engage positively with their host communities. He stressed the need for collaboration between corps members and local authorities to build a safer environment for everyone. “You have a critical role to play in fostering peace and security in your respective communities,” he added.

Conclusion

As the NYSC program continues to play a vital role in Nigeria's development, it is essential for corps members to embody the values of integrity, diligence, and respect. By adhering to these principles, they can contribute positively to society while fulfilling their service commitments.
