SGF: Security is a Collective Responsibility

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, emphasized that the security of lives and properties in Nigeria cannot rest solely on the shoulders of security agencies. During a recent engagement, he highlighted the need for a united front in tackling the pervasive security challenges facing the nation.

Community Involvement in Security

Senator Akume stated that effective security hinges on the active participation of various stakeholders, including communities, traditional rulers, religious organizations, civil society groups, and the private sector. He urged all Nigerians to acknowledge their role in fostering a secure environment.

“Security is not just the job of the police or the military; it is a collective responsibility that requires everyone’s involvement,” Akume remarked. He noted that the challenges Nigeria faces, such as banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes, necessitate a collaborative approach to security management.

Role of Traditional and Religious Leaders

In his address, the SGF pointed out that traditional and religious leaders play a crucial role in shaping community attitudes towards security. By promoting peace and dialogue, these leaders can help mitigate conflicts and encourage cooperation among community members.

The SGF concluded his remarks with a call to action for all Nigerians. He urged citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities. “Everyone has a role to play, and we must not turn a blind eye to the security issues around us,” he stated.
